Agave deserti var. simplex (aka Desert Agave)

Agave deserti var. simplex, aka desert agave, is native to Southern California and Northern Baja. Best we can tell, it should take 12-15 years to hit full maturity. At full maturity, the plants will be ~ 2 ft. tall and 2-4 ft. wide. It does not produce clones and is typically grown from seed. They tend to have a bowl like shape with thick broad leaves with sharp, long spines. They are more drought and frost tolerant than many other varieties, withstanding temperatures as low as 10 degrees (F). We plan on planting this on 40 inches beds and 1.5-2ft. down the row. It is also generally found in the wild at higher elevations above 3,000 ft., but we’re optimistic with our early results.
