Agave weberi

This agave variety is known for its hardiness and ability to withstand both high heat and low temperatures. However, as you can see from the picture, there is leaf burn on the tips of this plant. These plants are larger than Weber Azul, Espadin or Lemeno and should be spaced further apart down the row, perhaps 6-7 feet, resulting in approximately 650 plants per acre on 11-foot centers. We are growing these plants with only 3 inches of water per acre per year. Weberi has been used to make mezcal and seems like a good choice for California. Expect the plant to flower in 10-12+ years. Unfortunately, we currently do not have information on sugar levels, but we have been told anecdotally that sugars are approximately 40% less than Weber Azul. Pinas can weigh over 400 pounds.
